We are also on a university subscription so I have dealt with this some. If the package doesn't have a lot of dependencies you can probably update it, but you're on your own with security updates and so on. It's probably just as good to rpm -e dovecot and install from source in /usr/local/ . If it does have dependencies (e.g., openssl), I've found it easiest to rebuild Red Hat's rpm each time there is an update with your local bugfix. > BTW: What is the red hat's path to update packages like dovecot?
