Sounds like the same problem. I have my 64 bit machine running 2.6.18-53.1.4.el5xen and it doesn't seem to be affected. My 32 bit machines running 2.6.18-53.el5PAE do. I will upgrade and let you know.

I did notice that both you and Peter Sobisch are using NIS, while I have LDAP, but that might be a red herring.
