To bond the interfaces, see http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-bond-or-team-multiple-network-interf aces-nic-into-single-interface.html for a nice write up.
You set the bonding options in /etc/modprobe.conf. See http://www.cyberciti.biz/howto/question/static/linux-ethernet-bonding-dr iver-howto.php#section_4 for a list of options. You may need to do some switch configuration depending on how you configure bonding. Regardless, you will need to add trunking to the switch interface if you add vlans. To add a vlan to the bonded interface, create /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-bond0.<vlan-id>. For instance, /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-bond0.2 for vlan 2. The contents should look something like this: DEVICE=bond0.2 BOOTPROTO=static ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Ethernet IPADDR=192.168.2.100 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 VLAN=yes You should also add the VLAN=yes line to ifcfg-bond0. It's on VLAN 1. If you don't want VLAN 1 traffic you can just not configure this device (e.g., BOOTPROTO=none, no IPADDR, etc.) Do a service network restart. lsmod should show the bonding and 8021q (vlan trunking) modules loaded. Check out the files in /proc/net/bonding/bond0 /proc/net/vlan/config /proc/net/vlan/bond0.2 (or bond0.<vlan-id> Larry > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of wolf2k5 > Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2008 1:58 PM > To: Dell-Linux-Hardware; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (Nahant) > Discussion List; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (Tikanga) > discussion mailing-list > Subject: Linux Ethernet bonding and VLANs > > Hi, > > How do you setup Linux Ethernet bonding and VLANs at the same time? > > We'd like to do so on some Dell PowerEdge 1950 systems with > the dual-port integrated Broadcom NIC, the servers will be > running RHEL4 or RHEL5. > > Any info or pointers to online resources would be greatly appreciated. > > Thanks. > > _______________________________________________ > Linux-PowerEdge mailing list > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > http://lists.us.dell.com/mailman/listinfo/linux-poweredge > Please read the FAQ at http://lists.us.dell.com/faq > _______________________________________________ rhelv5-list mailing list [email protected] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/rhelv5-list
