- add new 80 gb disks partition to the raidset
We have a backup so the removed partition can be restored ;)

It's a long time since I fiddled with software RAID, but I do recall
trying to replace one 80 Gbyte drive with another.
The replacement was a few sectors short, and so unsuitable.
Longer is fine, until the other fails:-)
_I_ would contemplate replacing the pair; if they're three years old
then they're three years closer to expiring, and if further argument is
required I would prefer to be able to schedule time to do the deed at a
convenient time rather than when the end-of-year reports are due at the
system's gone belly up.
Replacing the pair also gives you complete freedom wrt _how_ you do the
deed; something mundane such as "tar cvC /oldsys . | tarxpC /newsys"
works nicely, and one can adjust partition sizes if needed.
