Hello,

I'm getting the following the last days when someone logins via telnet:

-------------------
# telnet ***
Trying ***...
Connected to ***.
Escape character is '^]'.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.1 (Tikanga)

login: ***
Password:
Last login: Sun May 25 13:22:29

Connection closed by foreign host.
-----------------------

The connection just closes after authentication. This does not happen with local users (/etc/passwd,shadow) but only with users in ldap and only with telnet (ssh works fine and all users can login).

There has been no configuration change, only the usual updates from rhn.

I've tried strace on both server and client, debug, cleaned up users home (although the problem is with all users) but always it just closes gracefully the connection. Re-installed telnet-server & xinetd, checked for possible 'interferences' and verified all packages, as I can tell there's no misconfiguration or alteration. I also enabled telnetd on a second 5.1 machine (not accessible by users) but the problem persist in that too.

On logs the only thing I get is:

----------------------------
May 25 13:42:33 *** login: pam_unix(remote:session): session opened for user *** by (uid=0)
May 25 13:42:33 *** login: LOGIN ON pts/2 BY *** FROM ***
May 25 13:42:33 *** login: pam_unix(remote:session): session closed for user ***
----------------------------

Anyone has an idea?

 Thanks,
  -n.
