This is just slightly off topic, I have 2 machines rhel4 and 5 on them,
hdparm shows the one as way faster than the other, but doing large file
copys and du -sh on huge directories proves the opposite:

# hdparm -Tt /dev/sdc2

/dev/sdc2:
 Timing cached reads: 3268 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1633.43 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 422 MB in 3.00 seconds = 140.55 MB/sec

]# hdparm -Tt /dev/sda1

/dev/sda1:
 Timing cached reads: 13260 MB in 2.00 seconds = 6639.86 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 988 MB in 3.00 seconds = 329.14 MB/sec

The first one is a SATA 12 raid 6 array, the second one is a SATA 6 x 750GB
raid 5 array. I can understand 12 drives should provide more iops, but this
makes no sense.
