Ran into an issue today where all of the domUs on our server rlost
network connectivity and the following message was scrolling on the console:
kernel: xen_net: Memory squeeze in netback driver.
Server is running RHEL 5.2 with 32-bit 2.6.18-92.1.1.el5xen kernel and
xen-3.0.3-64.el5_2.1, 16GB RAM and 4 NICs. All domUs use 2 of the NICs
and the bridges are provided with xenbr0 through xenbr3. I was able to
restore network connectivity to the domUs when I reduced the dom0's
memory with the xm mem-set command, which was helpful in troubleshooting.
Found the following bug reports which seemed very relevant:
http://bugzilla.xensource.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=762
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=454285
I followed the suggestion to restrict the dom0 memory footprint with the
dom0_mem boot option and rebooted. So far the error message hasn't
returned and the domUs are happy, but I'd like to know if others have
seen this error and/or know of something else that I should do to
correct the problem.
Thanks,
Tom
