I don't know how you define a "more or less official RHEL 5 repository", but the only official RHEL 5 repository is the RH one and Nagios is not included with RHEL. Then there is EPEL (see <http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL>), which contains well-integrated additional RHEL packages and there the newest Nagios version is 2.12. Maybe they upgrade that to 3.0.3 at some point.
