Should I expect an LSI 1068 RAID controller to work?

In particular, the one that comes with an ASUS TS700-E4/RX8.

I need to make a hardware purchasing decision fast. A machine of about
this size that can run RHEL5 (preferably, or some Linux) with
supported RAID drivers.

My preference is for drivers that are not binary-only in case I find
myself needing to run a specific kernel. (and the principle involved).

Any help is appreciated. As are any warnings that a given controller
is in fact fakeraid. (although this still may pose compatability
issues).

I don't mind software RAID but it makes booting after a failure a
hassle. And no battery-backed write cache (although the ASUS machine
makes no mention of such).
