Try to install RHEL v5.2 in text mode to figure out whether this
problem will arise in this mode. You can start text based
installation by simple passing an argument to Anaconda installer
program at boot prompt using this
linux text askmethod
OR
Try to install CENTOS-v5.2 if you have available.
Thanks, Anam and Greg
Text mode did the trick. I burned another DVD, but didn't work, froze
too. And I was actually using NFS image installation, and I md5sum
checked the image. So I think the media probably didn't matter in that
case.
But anyway, text mode works! (Oh,and "linux text askmethod" only works
in the first screen, not after you press F2.) Thanks!

Hello, everyone, happy new year first!
I got stuck with this strange behavior, tried to install RHEL v5.2,
but it will freeze in the middle of installation, and kind of
random, it froze mainly at three places, during disk partition,
during package dependence checking, and during disk formating. I
thought it might be hardware related, so I have tried these:
1. reseated everything (includes MB)
2. replaced SCSI cable (internal for HD)
3. switched SCSI card (have two SCSI cards in there)
4. disconnected all SCSI card, connected a IDE HD
They all failed! But with everything the same, RHEL AS 4 installed
totally fine (twice). So I guess there is some hardware requirement
issue for RHEL 5.2, which I couldn't find on Redhat website or on
line. Anybody had similar issue or any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
And here is my system detail:
Tyan's Tiger MPX MB with 2 AMD 1900+ CPUs
3 GB RAM
2 internal SCSI disks (identical, 73G)
2 SCSI card (Adaptec 39160 and 29160)
3 NIC card (one on-board 3com 100MB, two plugins, one intel 100MB,
the other intel 1GB)
Thanks,
CY
