Hi Everyone,

In September or so of 2007 I asked for help getting a Dell Optiplex 280 to display a spanned desktop via both the internal VGA connector and a Dell DVI add-in card under RHEL5. I eventually did this with some help from the list (thank you).

I've now run up against exactly the same problem with the Dell Optiplex 760. It's the same version of RHEL5 and Xorg but this time I'm using the "intel" driver rather than the "i810" driver so things are different.

I don't supposed anyone has already solved this one this time, have they?

Right now when I try doing Dual head configurations I'm having a problem getting Xorg to notice that I have actually specified the BusIDs of both heads of the graphics hardware in my xorg.conf. When you first install the box you get a perfect cloned desktop on both outputs. However as soon as you try to do a spanned desktop it goes wrong.

On an Optiplex 280 you get:

[r...@peppermill ~]$ /sbin/lspci | grep Graphics
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82915G/GV/910GL Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 04) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82915G Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 04)

On an Optiplex 760 you get:

[r...@knife X11]# /sbin/lspci | grep Graphics
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

My xorg.conf contains:

Does anyone have any suggestions please? With the i810 driver there was an option you could put in for

        Option "MonitorLayout" "CRT,DFP"

But this isn't supported with the intel driver. I can't seem to find a man page for the intel driver (man i810 works) so I'm unsure of how to proceed now.

Any and all help appreciated,

Ben
