I've configured LACP (mode 4) bonding between two interfaces. My
ifcfg-bond0 file includes:
BONDING_OPTS="mode=4 miimon=100"
And looking the contents of /sys/class/net/bond0/bonding/mode|miimon
files, the values are getting set correctly. But when I boot the
machine (or anytime the bonding module gets loaded), I get this error
message:
Warning: either miimon or arp_interval and arp_ip_target module
parameters must be specified, otherwise bonding will not detect link
failures!
It's harmless and an artifact of the way that the Red Hat bonding
scripts work.
In times gone by, bonding was set up exclusively through options in
modprobe.conf and so this warning message doesn't show up.
Unfortunately, configuring everything through modprobe.conf gets really
complicated and messy as your bonding set up gets more complicated which
is why bonding is now set up in the various ifcfg-* files.
This has the side effect of loading the bonding module with no link
detect mechanism selected and so you get the warning message.
The warning message is useful for people using different distros that do
things the old-fashioned way so I can't see it being removed any time
soon. It would make sense to defer spitting out the warning until the
first slave is added but you need to convince someone to actually do
this (or you could do it yourself).
