RHCE certifications are considered current for 2 releases of RHEL. I have
not heard anything about a timeline for RHEL 6 either, but imagine that
2010 is very likely. I am waiting for RHEL 6 as well to take the RHCE
exam, as my RHEL 4 RHCE will no longer be current at that time. I do not
see any advantage (for me at least) to take the RHCE under RHEL 5 when
RHEL 6 is relatively close, my RHCE is still current, and taking the RHCE
under RHEL 5 would just mean that I will need to retake the RHCE under
RHEL 7, and not be able to wait until RHEL 8 to stay current. I followed
the same strategy when my RHCE from RHL 7.1 became no longer current. In
the mean time, there is no harm in stuyding the RHCE exam prep guide

Hope this helps.

I believe that RHCE certifications are good for the version you test for and
the next, so if you get it for 5, then it will be good for 5 and 6. Either way,
5 is going to be out in the wild for a long time, so you aren't really going to
be out anything getting it now.

I wonder if there is any indication of when rhel6 might come out? I was
planning of getting RHCE and thought I should wait until it comes out first.
thanks,
