Whatever everyone says, it's your problem and your responsibility if it
stuffs up.
Nothing beats a backup and testing it out, preferably on a test system.
That said, I would expect the program to be sensible about it and to not
do harm if it cannot do the operation safely.
I would try taking a backup using dd, to copy the entire partition (or
drive) to a test location.
