Hi All,
I was wondering if any on the list has any experiences (positive or
negative) with using the Sun "Neptune" Gig (10 Gig in fact) Ethernet
card on RHEL5?
We have some Sun 8420 blade servers here that have shipped with
a Neptune-based quad-card:
eth1: NIU Ethernet 00:14:4f:88:c5:e5
eth1: Port type[XMAC] mode[1G:COPPER] XCVR[MII] phy[mif]
87:00.0 Ethernet controller: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. Multithreaded
10 Gi
gabit Ethernet Network Controller (rev 01)
Subsystem: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. Unknown device 0000
[...]
We tried getting this card going with an earlier version of RHEL, but
found the Sun (proprietary) driver fairly buggy at the time. I see
that there is now a free driver included with RHEL5 ("niu") - it loads
and seems to work based on preliminary checks. But we're wondering
how stable/mature this is?
Any thoughts appreciated ...
