Nick, No to both questions. The devil is always in the details. The problem you run into is that such a migration is not as simple as a one-for-one replacement of every 32-bit component with its 64-bit counterpart. You have to keep some. The transitional nature of many packages and the non-availability of 64-bit versions of others mean both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of some packages are often required.
