Hi Doc,
You need to link the java plugin into the Firefox plugins directory.  To
do this system wide, look for the plugin in /usr/java and symlink it to
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins.  For example, on my 32-bit system, I have this
symlink:

libjavaplugin_oji.so ->
/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_17/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
