I'm not actually the type of customer who appreciates that kind of
mail. Was this a double-opt-in mailing list?

Have you implemented DomainKeys, SPF and filled in the relevant Yahoo
Sender Verification stuff? Trust me, I've worked with clients who feel
the need to improve their to-Inbox delivery on Yahoo and many little
changes made the difference and rate was not usually the issue.
