If value stability and reliability, you should not willingly use anything non-standard. Any applications certified for RHEL5 are tested only with standard software.

Also, installing non-standard software may harm your support agreement with RH. Read the fine print to see what is allowed. It' give you a big extra bill, if I were providing support and had to sort out a mysql problem only to find it was a more recent (and less tested) version than I agreed to support.

If you don't care about stability and reliability, try Fedora. It has pretty much the latest of everything, and the breakages that result from it.
