Questions:
---------

Why is there this significant difference in single-task throughput
between the two kinds of storage, knowing that both storage systems
perform more or less similar at peak performance?

What should I do to increase the performance when doing single-process
I/O to the XIV? Could it be related to the multipath system?

IMO, device drivers play a big role. Take Areca SATA/SAS-cards for instance. I've never gotten so good single process sequental read speeds from anything with compareable or bigger amount of spindles. Whether thats due to hw or sw or both, I don't know.

All I know that zapping through 10 gigabyte files at speeds exceeding 700 megabytes/s withouth any tuning is good enough for me. With just 18 el-cheapo 7200rpm SATA-spindles from two years ago.

Throwing a lot more money at it got me 1,1 gigabytes/s with 21 15k SAS-spindles.
