Alan,
From my end, I can confirm EPEL is working and I am able to pulled down
the files you are not able to. This may be an issue with your system
network contacting the EPEL servers? In any case, I would check with
your firewall/proxy settings regarding port 80 and 443.
This kbase looks to be related to your error.

Good luck!

I have no problem, even using your custom baseurl. I would

I have had great success with that.
What is the default mirrorlist? I have not changed anything myself - am
new here and have inherited what is here.
Is this not the default?
mirrorlist=http://mirrors.__fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?__repo=epel-5&arch=$basearch
<http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=epel-5&arch=$basearch>
Because it does not work either
[root@solexa-db ~]# yum search bacula
Loaded plugins: downloadonly, rhnplugin, security
Could not retrieve mirrorlist
http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=epel-5&arch=x86_64
<http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=epel-5&arch=x86_64>
error was
[Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (111, 'Connection refused')>
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository:
epel. Please verify its path and try again
thanks,
-Alan
