Hi,

Although I understand I'm probably very late in the beta process I
thought I still share some thoughts regarding the installation process
of beta2.

I did a server installation using boot.iso. First thing I noticed is the
fact that even with the current ~200MB boot.iso a shell is only made
available on tty2 very late in the setup process. Are there any
technical reasons why a shell cannot be made available earlier in the
installation? With the 10MB boot.isos for older releases I reckoned
space was an issue, but that can hardly be the reason not to pack a
shell in a 200MB boot image.

Since my box has 2 nics I got the option to choose which one to use for
the URL installation. However, the nics were only identified by MAC
address. This might be useful in case of two identical nics - still
without a shell it's hard to check which is which if you didn't write
that down -, but when having different nics an identification by
manufacturer/type or used driver is probably easier for most people.
Perhaps you could show both identifiers or add a toggle option?

When providing a url you need to provide the exact url or the loading of
install.img will fail. This has been a nuisance for years. Adding a way
to browse through the file tree of the server you picked would be a very
nice addition.

I noticed when creating a custom parition layout the first (/) partition
created does not end on a cylinder boundary (as reported by fdisk).
Perhaps I forgot to uncheck the option "resizable" and is this the
cause. Also I noticed some mention of odd partition boundaries while
browsing the archives, so it could well be this has been discussed in
length already.

Package selection using the standard installation sets now uses radio
buttons instead of check boxes. This makes it impossible to f.e. choose
Web Server and Database Server at the same time. I understand the option
Minimal Install vs. the others is an either/or option, but for the other
package sets it should be possible to select more than one without
having to customize.

As said, I know I'm pretty late in the process to make these comments,
but perhaps they can be of some use for later releases ;) .

Regards,
Leonard.
