While I can certainly understand your depressed attitude today, I think
you're wrong.
Progressive activism in America is far from dead, and it may have just been
given the shot in the arm the democrats couldn't provide
four more years of BushCo neocon theocratic pandering will surely galvanize
the progressive -anti-war -environmental-socially conscious 'left behind"
left coast left of America that there will most assuredly be a coalition of
the disenfranchised never before seen in the U S or even the world.
While today's news and a sense of abandonment by a candidate who promised
all votes would be counted has me flip flopping from homicidal to suicidal,
I still won't take the bitter pill of defeatism and write off American
ingenuity, spirit, and the collective consciousness of free thinking
progressive minded people.
We became a country fighting the mightiest empire that wished to impose it's
theocratic values on our people while collecting our money to pay for it.
Sound familiar?
This is not the time to throw in the towel and give up our collective view
of America, writing it off as immoral and ignorant in the face of injustice.
As you pointed out, HALF of our population was alert, informed, aware, and
mobilized toward regime change in America.
While it's still a great mystery how we let Diebold decide this election,
one thing is certain. We won't get fooled again. It's just not American, and
we showed at least enough spirit in this election to know there ARE free
thinking Americans still living and breathing to fight another day..
Remember, Nixon got re-elected by a huge margin. we know how that turned
out.
Stay strong, stay true, and stay informed. That in itself may stop this from
ever happening again.

Dirge for America
American progressivism seems to be dead this morning, the day after the
disastrous election of 2004: Dead as any sort of popular movement.
The dumbed-down public nailed the final nail in the coffin of a democratic,
fair America the day George Bush was re-elected.
A similar "spanking" to what was described in the above Bible verse is
coming for America. I feel it in my bones. It is coming. And it is too bad
the almost one half of America that didn't commit the crime of re-electing
George W. Bush has to suffer along with those who are guilty of it.
As a nation we have proven ourselves to be a NON-moral, arrogant,
out-of-control, greedy, bullying country. America has now become AmeriKa.
Sooner or later, most surely without doubt, America will face the old trusim
"what comes around, goes around".
This seems to be a law for countries as well as individuals for to all who
are cruel, disingenuous, oppressive, unfair, greedy, bloody people.
For those not attuned to religion please forgive the use of religous
metaphor, but I used this quote to show that coming destruction applies to
all who are 'so blind that they will not see".
Any thinking American should now be veru afraid that America will not
escape the consequences of its own folly.
Maybe I am full of baloney, but I doubt it. I don't' think America will
avoid the coming catastrophe brought on by its evil choices, any more than
Napoleonic France, Nazi Germany, or Slobodan Milosevic Serbia.
Thousands of dead innocents' blood cries out from the ground in Iraq.
America has now declared itself the murderous spiritual heir to Cain, to
continue the religious metaphor.
Progressivism in America seems to be in disarray, and if not dead, dying.
To appeal to the masses here in America, this election proved that only evil
intentions, unfairness, militarism, xenophobia, crass materialism, corporate
rape of society and eco-disaster will win votes. We should be very afraid
for our future. I do not think I am
wrong: it is coming our way.
The die is cast. American rationalism is on the run. Satanic glee abounds in
bullying, nazi-ism, xenophobia, ethnocentrism, bigotry, military
adventurism, rampant public borrowing, the raping of the poor, the
destruction of the environment,the stripping of the Constitution:...
All of these horrors and more have been approved by 51 percent of the
American people. Our middle finger is up and erect for the world to see and
judge whether they can do business with us.
Without a doubt, the dictators, the thugs, the terrorists will take heart
from Bush's re-election.
The strains of this song came floating through my mind this morning:
