How many people have had the experience of looking at a computer screen on which one window shows the file "blahblah.com" clearly, while a box at center screen insists: "Error: Cannot find blahblah.com! [Okay]"? Computers compartmentalize their information. Their left hand does not know what is in their right hand, unless somewhere in their program they are told something like "copy lefthand righthand." If the monitor tells a Kerry voter that he's just voted for Bush, something is definitely wrong. But if it records and displays his vote correctly, that is still no guarantee of things being right. Everything depends on how numbers get into that one storage area where votes are totaled, making sure that each vote affects those totals correctly, and that nothing else does. I'm getting messages about various European countries where civil service workers simply count ballots by hand. For some reason, their exit poll results invariably match the actual vote count well. For some reason ours don't. Forrest Curo San Diego ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> Make a clean sweep of pop-up ads. Yahoo! Companion Toolbar.
