Not long after I had discovered through a summer job during my seminary years with the then totally corrupt Protestant Council of the City of NY -- which turned out to be a front operation for a group of Billy Graham fundamentalists who were not even residents of NYC and known to be totally corrupt by the NYC Episcopals and Presbyterians in its anti-Semitism and anti-Civil Rights efforts behind the scenes, a new "death of God" theology surfaced:

While there are still decent people struggling to do the right things in our religious institutions -- many are dear friends and colleagues -- most good people of leadership capacity have departed to do their good things elsewhere -- leaving the scoundrels and less competent in charge of our religious institutions where they do battle all too often against the ever fewer authentic Catholic, Protestant, and Jewish progressives. Let us look at the record. The terrible error of the Catholic Church has not been its pedophiles abusing kids, but rather the cover-ups and abuses of their victims by its hierarchy! Protestant battles loom in each of the denominations between the Christians and crooks and hate mongers. And the conversion of such once justice pursuing organizations as the Anti Defamation League into a Muslim hating right wing lobbying group is a sad defeat of a religion once known for its unbending pursuit of justice. And so it has gone in Amerika -- religion, as well as God, has died! How sad.
