Ola! Good Day All. Very cool thoughts and responses, thanx! I hope you and yours are well and will continue to be. So true, you say, "We humans like to think that we have life all figured out, but in fact we are still a young species, and still not exactly sure what this being alive stuff is all about." Yet, the basis for your psychological analysis, "Bush won in the US because the voters in the red states did not understand themselves ontologically--they did not understand the emotions and thoughts people have as they become more their beings.", while true enough, misses the actual underlying psychological basis for their actions; i.m.h.o.. For e.g., I feel the "blue staters", as you would identify them, aren't a great deal more aware in that area, yet, this isn't as pertinent as one might think, because the direction of your analysis isn't as accurate as it could be; i.m.h.o.. As I interpret it, from a non-Adlerian perspective, the "red staters", as you identify them, didn't understand themselves ontologically, yet, the "blue staters", as you would identify them, don't excel in this area either. Reich points out, in his classic work on the subject of fascism and societies' slide back into it, that people aren't in difficulty with becoming more of who they are, in these sociological and societal determined gestalts, rather, they're in accordance with unbecoming their potential selves, the one that could have been from whom they were; if they had chosen their paths instead of allowing societies' fascist sociological programming to determine what they were, to the extent that they did, and who they would unbecome. Yes, Jungian thoughts on individuation and its role in society are at play in this perspective, yet, it is also relevant in a larger societal analysis; as the global societal view of earth's populace is in agreement with it, that suffices as current evidence for this interpretation, for many. So, in fact, they are less becoming themselves, and more unbecoming them. Or, in other words, they're more actively following the sociologically determined rote that society had psychically set in their various states of consciousnesses; so they, would unbecome into a lowest common-denominator accepting homeostatic state driven agent of the state and the overbearing institutions that have determined our decades long societal fascist slide backwards as a nation. The question arises how do we as a society address this slide, and an answer is in the "long reply of mine you didn't read", though, I'll sum it up here. As Ivan Illich related decades ago, in his wonderful book, "Deschooling Society", the rote that has replaced realization of human potential, must, inevitably, lead to humanities' and large mammals extinction in the short-term; if societies' devolutionary direction remains unchecked and unchanged. So we, in a nutshell, must begin again, as a species, a global society, nation state fraternity, and national, regional, communal, and individual somatic system, to be the life more; instead of its extinction. Of course, dispensing with the supposedly "necessitated" substitutes for domestic economic growth and foreign policy, republican's "unending war", is only a minimum. Though, for any real hope to exist, I think using evolution as a common language, as it's the thread that links every, in the fabric of life, is a good place to start. What do you all think?
