REPOST

I'm currently reading 6 books. I usually read more than that at a
time. Two of them are about John Kerry, the autobiography and the Boston
Globe bio. I don't think much of the autobiography so far. He sounds like
a salesman who can't quite make his case but the bio from the Globe
reporters is much better (I've only completed a partial reading of both
those books so I have not reached any real conclusions yet).

BUT, it really comes down to this. I don't like Kerry so much that I would
choose him to represent me if I had other choices but I don't ---- and in
a republic that is what we get, a representative, who we HOPE will stand
in for us on all things we feel are important. We always have to
compromise.

It is true that Kerry is way too much of a hawk for me. He broke with
the organization he founded after five months to form another group
because the Left which made up most of the VVAW were too radical for him
and Kerry is after-all a mainstream kind of guy even when he opposes
something like that war. He was radicalized but soon found it didn't stand
him in good stead with the mainstream who he would come to rely on as his
base in his political pursuits.

The one consolation is Kerry will watch the back of those who have been
sacrificed by politicians to fight their wars. He will support veterans
and so do I. It must be done. Veterans have been scammed. Some have become
psychotic by their experiences. They all need help.

I do believe, from what I have read so far, that Kerry is however more
progressive and indeed he considers himself a progressive. He says so and
he lays out some progressive positions which I will post shortly. I
believe he would come down on the same side on many issues as Ted Kennedy
and that is good in my view.

He isn't however a Ron Dellums or a Bernie Sanders nor would he be on the
side of the Black caucus but will at least I think he will listen to them
and can be persuaded. AND the important fact is, he is infinitely better
than Bush.

Bush is a major disaster and if allowed to stay in office may cause
unrepairable harm, not just the damage he has caused so far. Believe me he
can do much worse -- so even though I am not totally happy with Kerry I
believe he and his running mate (Edwards would pull a lot of support from
the South) and his appointments to the court (very important) and his
cabinet (who would set policy would be to the left of the Republicans), so
I will be voting for Kerry in November and cannot afford to waste my vote
again for Nader -- as much as I like him, even though he also is not
radical enough for me.

  We must defeat Bush.

AND we must get very serious about our opposition to all right wing
  fascist idiots.
