Oh Ed, if only your wishes came true. I too have dreams of seeing Bush et
al, hauled off to the Hague to face war criminal charges. It seems that so
many Americans fall for the drivel that whatever American does is right, and
is totally beyond question or reproach. I am a proud American (born and
raised in New York City) who has been living in Canada, for personal NOT
political reasons, since 1985. My eyes have been opened and I have
undergone a true evolutionary process as far as my thinking and observations
are concerned.
Although most Canadians I meet are very much enamoured with the
American people as a whole, they question many of our government's positions
and actions. The Iraq war is anathema here, and in my opinion, rightfully
so. Bush is looked upon as being a dangerous zealot who confuses his reborn
religious experience with his constitutional responsibilities. The one word
that is most often used to describe Bush and his closest cronies is
"arrogance."
The latest outrage in Iraq concerning the abuse of prisoners is
shocking not to mention, repulsive. However, our soldiers are not encouraged
to look upon Iraqis as anything more than the enemy and as has happened many
times throughout history, they are perceived as something less that human.
This of course, allows them to be treated differently than we expect real
human beings to be treated. I am appalled by the pretend shock of the
president and his senior advisors and cabinet over this situation. This
president who preaches morality should make more than a simple statement. He
should be showing outrage and anger and demanding heads to roll.
Rumsfeld and Meyers are always talking about how proud we as
Americans should feel about the humane treatment with which we treat the
civilian population in Iraq. The overcrowded and under-equipped hospitals
as well as the rapidly filling cemeteries tell a somewhat different story.

As the reports begin to dribble out of our abuses of Iraqi prisoners
apparently sanctioned by our military intelligence operatives there and,
thus, the direct responsibility of the Pentagon, Rumsfeld, and Bush as
'commander in chief', I hope never to meet face to face another Bush
supporter. This man and his vile crew have dishonored this country and must
be held directly 'accountable' (their favored word) for the 17,000
(?) Iraqis that we have killed and the mounting losses of Americans and
others involved in this misbegotten 'neocon' adventure. We are now tarred
world wide as a nation of duplicitous war criminals!
Impeachment for high crimes and misdemeanors is in order. Let the process
begin.
