Steve: Thanks for your comments. It is an issue for which many opinions exist. As a Jew it is difficult to take views critical of Israel without some suspicion that they are not balanced yet it is possible for folks to be critical without a preconceived bias and it is possible to draw honest conclusions and to distribute blame. It just seems that it happens so infrequently. We can't forget our culpability for the mistakes, but that does not mean we must accept blame or be faulted for having the will to survive. Some try to do that with the least amount of harm to others while not over-reacting to the mean-spirited among our foes and their supporters who will find every excuse to unjustly find fault with us and our analysis. My views do not often find favor on the left because of my support of the truth (as I see it - yet seeking truth to me is more important than any need to be right) It is sad that everyone cannot be as honest about the facts and circumstances as we should attempt to be. By the way, it is very easy to agree with a left or right point of view. It is much harder to be independent even if that position is unpopular. There should not be a specific "line of march." I think that is where the left has failed so often. We need the balls to accuse Stalin or Pol Pot of perpetrating atrocities (easier to do now than it was at the time - for many to do) or condemning wrong policy if it is immoral.
