Excellent Hank. South Africa seems to have done exactly what you are proposing. But then they had some leaders who WERE leaders! Peace G. -----Original Message----- |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| ANNOUNCEMENTS and ARTICLES: http://pnews.org/art/art.shtml |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Actually Rowland, nobody likes my solution, but like I said, I'm not an Israeli, and I don't vote there. BUT I believe the way to solve the problem is #1 to rename Israel and call it Palestine. Then include everyone on both sides of the line. Let those back who can prove they were there before. But since they won't agree to that, at least ONE state. Nationalisms are the problem. It is a problem which always divides people. Maybe there is no other way. You wouldn't expect the Kurds in Babylon to merge with their Arab neighbors, would you? They have different traditions and are not interested in becoming Iraq. What they really want is another nationalism. So do the Kurds in Syria and Turkey but the Turks wouldn't hear of it and the Syrians would gas another 30,000 or was that the Turks that murdered 30,000 Kurds? Actually they both murdered a lot of their own citizens and nobody much objected. I mean if Saddam is such a monster, what is the difference or reason for not calling the other colonialist imposed rulers what they really are. And the colonialist have to take reponsibility also. Do you know how many Palestinians the King of Jordan massacred during the uprising and he isn't even a Palestinian, he is a Heshamite. Nationalist bullshit. Israel is a bit of a different story and everyone recognizes it. Only the Arabs will tell ya, why did the West have to dump them there? The West feels guilty because they didn't want them. If you want to know why Jews have a head-lock on the land, see Shindler's List to get a small idea what it was like. Genocide was a work invented for the Holocaust. It was never used before it was introduced to the UN by a Jewish lawyer who was there. It wasn't the first time there was a Genocide and won't be the last, but everyone gets a hair crossed each time someone talks about the Genocide perpetrated against the Jews. There are genocides in Africa now and I don't hear my friend Ed Kent complaining about the HIV genocide or the inter-tribal wars where children are kidnapped and turned into murderers and they rather disfigure and maim people than kill them, though they have done their share of that too -- and it is a much bigger problem right now than a fence which saves lifes. The killing that goes on in this world is not an excuse for people here to simply pick and choose their favorite cause here and rail on about it. God damn it, do something. Like the left generally does, it talks, and it talks. OK, maybe I don't do enough. But there are things you can do. I do write the papers. I call up people I know and people I know who know people who matter because they have some influence. How many organizations do you belong to. Go to their meetings and talk about the problems in Africa, in Israel, in Turkey, in Syria, in the U.S. (especially the U.S. because you can start here to do more). Join the Peace Corps or some inner city help problem. Volunteer at the soup kitchen. But let your politician representatives know they cannot depend on your vote (or your friends) unless they do the right/humanitarian things .. and no more bullshit. No cronyism. You know why Bush is toast? Because MOST people are not going to stand for his cronyism. Even Republicans will not support him. He lost the Arab vote. 55,000 voted in Florida and because he lied during the run up to the election and said he would oppose profiling and since his assault on civil liberties and even though 88 per cent of those 55,000 voted for him in Florida in 2000, they won't be voting for him in 2004. And his conservative base isn't going to support him. Everything you hear now is from the campaign, but he will not win. So you get ready to make damn sure Kerry does what is required. And at the same time join some organizations which lobby and keep those in Washington aware of people needs and national humanitarian needs.
