Dear Mr. Kent,
I've always find satisfaction in reading your writings, in that it
portrays a sense of reason and balance. Of course I too have views of the Israeli /
Palestine ongoing conflict and will say, as you have expressed, that both sides are
not free of blame. Though in my opinion it is not fifty, fifty, yet thats not the most
important issue at this time in time
I coud'nt agree with you more when you point out the reluctance of politicians over
here to take a positive and moral stand ( my words) to bring some semblance of
fairness and end the sufferings of both sides. Both majorities of Dems and Reps and
the Hillaries - whom at one time I had the greatest admiration, find being elected far
more important than any moral stand.
I correspond with a Jewish friend in Israel, he tells me that there appear more
militant people and media over here (USA) than there are in Israel, and that Israeli
peace makers
voices are rarely mentioned in the American press.
I might have mentioned this before on this site, I'll do so again. I am saddened to
have lost what I had considered to be a firm friendship with two Jewish friends, one a
Physist, writer, composer and declared leftist among other things. The other a writer
that operates a website and a member of a national organization that speak for the
disadvantaged and less powerful, of which I too am a member.
The breakup, or rather cessation of correspondence, came about because I expressed
similiar views as you expressed in this essay. This leaves me to suspect that many
professed moderates and truth seekers out there are only that as long as not the merest
criticism are made of one side.
Where do we go from here? the USA have never been, and little or no hope of ever
being the honest broker;.
This might surprise some, but I'm neither a pacifist, nor an agitator. having served
in an army, navy, and at one time an amateur boxer, I try to fit the action to the
cause. Though I consider myself more of the former than the latter.
I will however plod on and live in hope, rather than die in despair.
Regards, Leslie Lowe

I happened to awaken in the wee hours to catch a portion of Dr. Carlos
Russell's "Thinking It Through," the late hour remnant of African
American programming on WLIB (1190 AM in NYC) that Air America has not
yet preempted -- midnight - 5 a.m. Carlos I know well from the time we
worked together when he was Dean of our School of Contemporary Studies
at Brooklyn College, CUNY, in the early 1970s.

Carlos had raised the sensitive topic of Israel/Palestine and how we
could most help in achieving peace there? It got me (sleepily) thinking
and I eventually called in with a few analytical observations.
