>From New Strait Times:

* DISGRACED Forbidden Love author Norma Khouri has finally admitted to
fabricating parts of her "true-life" story - but only to protect her
safety and that of her family's, she claims.

The Guardian quotes the 34-year-old's defence: "I'm not saying I deny that
I've lied. I'm saying that I apologise to all the readers, publishers and
agents out there for not letting them know my personal full story.

"But I did not lie about Dalia's existence or about her murder or about
her life. I will never call that book fiction and I will never call that
book a novel."

The bestseller, about a Jordanian Muslim honour killing involving "best
friend" Dalia who loved a Christian man, indicated several inconsistencies
after an investigation by the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper. It has
since been removed from shelves.

In an American television interview, Khouri declared that she has not
received any royalties from the 300,000 books already sold as the money is
meant for charity.

This literary scandal has caused publisher Random House to severe ties
with Khouri; refusing to touch sequel, A Matter of Honour.

Unsurprisingly, the writer is considering relocation - for her children's
sake.
