Kerry voted FOR the war. Kerry has said again and again he will fight the war "better." Kerry doesn't regret his vote for the war, even now knowing that Bush lied to Congress. Kerry is campaigning on the "Stronger America" platform. Hell, the Democrats sound like Republicans today.
What relevance does Kerry's service 30 years ago have in today's world?
I think you misunderstood my post. Yes, Kerry voted for the war, and he put forward a "pro-war, pro-military" image at the Democratic convention, where he claimed to be "the best candidate to win the war." Of course, the promotion of this image has largely backfired. For a full discussion of the complex strategy of opposing the war while using pro-war rhetoric, go to _http://members.aol.com/sberen2000/dishonesty.com_ (http://members.aol.com/sberen2000/dishonesty.com)
And, yes it is true that Kerry is using the slogan "For A Stronger America." For a full discussion on the issue of whether the world needs a "stronger America" or a "weaker America," go to _http://members.aol.com/sberen2000/weaker.htm_ (http://members.aol.com/sberen2000/weaker.htm)
Kerry's service in the military is really not that important to most voters, including me. What is important is his record of opposing the war in Vietnam, accusing the U.S. military of severe war crimes and atrocities, supporting the "nuclear freeze" campaign during the Reagan presidency, favoring cuts in military and intelligence spending prior to 9/11, and his current belief that the war on terrorism is not primarily a military matter.
