I quoted only this part of your post because of space limitations but I feel
every word is appropriate. In reading it I suddenly thought of substituting
Republicans" for "Israelis" and "Democrats" for "Arabs" Or "Liberals" for
Conservatives." Whichever. Each opposing segment says the same about the
opposition and doesn't listen. We each seem to believe what we believe and
want everyone to think the way we do.
I say, vive la difference.
The point is. . .calm and reasoning discussion always seems to deteriorate
into name calling and, often, cursing. At that point discussion becomes
useless; the persons doing the name calling have lowered themselves in the
estimation of others and rendered their own arguments harmless.
Doesn't anyone think it's time to talk about these things and listen to each
other? Give each the respect due to a human being -- no matter what that
person's views are. We all have the same problems whether we pray to the
same God or not. We all deserve to be respected and heard.
If we don't learn to do that, we will NEVER make any progress.
Hatred is unproductive and useless. We don't have to love each other but we
really should be willing to respect each other.
Could you continue the discussion respectfully? I am enjoying it except for
the rancor.
