G'day everyone,
A little while ago John Buckman (founder of MangnaTune) contacted me,
checking up on how the MagnaTune-Rhythmbox integration was going and the
like.
One of the things he mentioned was that they we setting they'd set
things up so that a small amount (10%) of the purchase price of tracks
bought with Amarok was being set aside to go back into funding the
development Amarok.
He made that same offer to us, namely that is we wanted they would give
back some of the proceeds from Rhythmbox-related sales to fund
development. I thanked him for the offer, and said we'd need to discuss
what we would do with any money.
So now we need to discuss what we could possibly do with any money they
gave us.
I don't have any particular ideas about what we could do with it - if we
can't think of anything, we could donate it to the GNOME foundation or
something.
I'm not sure that we want to repeat the experience we had with bounties.
I'm sure the core developers know what I mean.
So, it might be a nice gesture to donate the money to a non-profit that
explicitly supports the development or promotion of audio/video freedoms.
So maybe (in order of relevance):
1. Xiph.org
- http://xiph.org/about/
2. FSF
- https://www.fsf.org/donate/
3. CC
- http://creativecommons.org/support/
4. EFF
- http://www.eff.org/about/
5. GNOME Foundation
- http://www.gnome.org/friends/
If we choose one of 1-4 perhaps we can see if Amarok would be interested in
doing the same.
Jon
