I use GRIP which still utilizes FreeDB for tagging. I'm not familiar with MusicBrainz, but the concern would be for providing compatibility with files which are tagged using FreeDB or another method. Providing local file support of course definitely helps to mitigate that concern. I have seen postings regarding GRIP and providing the capability to use MusicBrainz, but nothing about whether this is actually being worked.
