Uninstall Mplayer, VLC, gxine, and others. I have only two (Totem and
Banshee). And even if you have more, I wouldn't really call that a major
problem. :)

I'm not sure. It might be an extension you can disable in Edit |
Preferences, on the Extensions tab? (Anyone else able to test this?) I
haven't thought about this since I'm rather enamored by the idea, but this
is certainly a valid use case that should be covered, IMO.
