The pre-rendering happens because the components that don't render children 
wouldn't render the placeholder in the first place. We need to cancel the 
second rendering during {{RendererBase.encodeEnd}} but it's a final method so 
we cannot override it. It jumps straight into {{PlaceholderRender.doEncodeEnd}} 
which is the CDK-generated method (and we need it for the first rendering). I 
am not sure where to insert the check.
