MUTH'S TRUTHS - It’s the Spending, Stupid

Democrats hopped all over former fed chief Alan Greenspan’s comments yesterday
opposing John McCain’s tax cut plans. But the Democrats and their “amen corner”
in the press aren’t telling the whole story. Greenspan said the country
couldn’t afford the tax cuts UNLESS spending was cut as well. That’s a big
difference.

And it’s consistent with John McCain’s record. Indeed, McCain was often slammed
in the GOP primaries for opposing the Bush tax cuts in the administration’s
first term, but McCain’s reason was that he wanted spending cuts along with the
tax cuts. And indeed, spending is our biggest problem.

Alas, when asked by Charlie Gibson last week what a McCain-Palin administration
would cut from the budget if elected, Sarah Palin was unable to give a straight
answer. She only said what they WOULDN’T cut (military benefits).

Which raises a question for fiscal conservatives as to whether she honestly
doesn’t know where to cut the federal budget…or if for political reasons she
just didn’t want to say. Either way, regardless of Gibson’s condescending
manner is asking the question, it’s a legitimate one deserving of a much more
forth-coming answer from the campaign.
