Fellow Common Sense Texans:
We are pleased that Senator John Cornyn and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison have
refused to provide active support to Harry Reid's Health Care Bill.
What many of us have been dismayed to learn is that Harry Reid's Health Care
Bill is being moved through the senate using a set of PROCEDURAL SHORTCUTS
designed to GET AROUND THE SENATE RULES and expedite passage of the health care
bill. It's even more dismaying to know that Cornyn and Hutchison have been
going along with it.
To name but one example, Cornyn and Hutchison have the power to insist that the
health care bill, and any proposed amendments, be read on the Senate floor,
according to senate rules. Harry Reid doesn't want the bill, or the
amendments, to be read. Will Cornyn and Hutchison stand up and demand that
this senate rule is followed, or will they let Reid get away with his shortcut?
The bottom line: Harry Reid is only able to get around the senate rules because
John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison are NOT OBJECTING to Harry Reid's
circumvention of the senate rules. Any senator can object to the shortcuts at
any time and DEMAND that Harry Reid follow the senate rules.
Cornyn and Hutchison have not been objecting to Harry Reid's procedural
shortcuts.
We believe it is high time they did so.
We believe it's time for the people of Texas to let Cornyn and Hutchison know
that we expect Harry Reid to FOLLOW THE RULES, and we expect our senators to
OBJECT when Harry Reid tries to circumvent the rules.
We can't put it any better than our friends in the Cincinnati Tea Party have:
"We need to engage the Republicans and demand that they fight for our
Constitutional Republic in the Senate. Our initial engagement will target
conservative stalwarts such as Tom Coburn and Jim DeMint along with Senate
Republican leadership.
Here is what to ask for when calling:
* Demand that all (ethical) tactics be used to defeat this health care bill
* Demand that the bill and all amendments be read
* Raise Constitutional points of order when necessary which require debate
* Object to all motions for unanimous consent related to health care
* Force quorum calls when 51 Democrats are not present on the Senate floor
* Demand roll call votes on every motion where possible"
