This really saddens me. (see forwarded message below) I met my Peggy when the USS Wasp went into dry dock in Boston. I took a part time job at Peter Pan's located near Boston U. We bought our first house in Lynn, MA, where our children spent their formative years. Peggy still has siblings living there. One of the biggest surprises for me (a born-and-raised Chicagoan) was how close the Pols are to the people in MA. The closest my family ever saw a poitician, was when my Dad saw an alderman to get my little bro into the same public school I attended. When I came home from the Navy, my Dad had a Daley democrat pol waiting at the kitchen table to welcome me home (and to tell me how much more important city politics were than far away national politics). In his words, "we don't care if you vote for Johnson. It's Mayor Daley that counts. Never saw him again, I just voted straidght Democrat like everyone else. In Mass, I talked to Sen Leverett Saltonstall and saw Sen JFK leave his motorcade on Mass Ave to put the make on a Peter Pan waitress. I shook hands with U.S. Senator Edward Brooke when he came to my work place, Lynn Mayor Morino bought Peggy and I drinks at a hotel bar. When my GI college benefits got screwed up, I complained to Congressman Harrington (I worked in his campaign in gratitude) and got my real estate taxes lowered by going to my Lynn state legislator's office. We've lived in Texas since 1986 and the only pol I've seen in person was Gov Rick Perry at a TEA Party rally. Yes, I miss the good old days raising a family in Massachusetts, NOT.
