CARBON MONOXIDE IS BAD,
CARBON DIOXIDE IS GOOD
AND NEEDED FOR GROWTH.
The Miracle of Carbon Dioxide
By E. Ralph Hostetter, a prominent businessman and agricultural
publisher, also is a national and local award-winning columnist.  He
welcomes comments by email sent to [email protected].

First off, carbon dioxide should not be confused with carbon
monoxide, a poisonous gas.  Carbon dioxide is a miracle giver of life.
Carbon dioxide is the only -- and we repeat only -- substance on
earth that can harvest the sun's energy through a process of
photosynthesis and thereby create matter in the form of vegetation.  It
is the major building block of all vegetation.
The food chain on which all animal life depends and survives is based
on vegetation.
It is the browsers and the grazers among the animals that provide the
meat for the predators -- other animals and humans.
The fish and other sea creatures feed on plankton grown in the sea
with the help of carbon dioxide.
As in eons past, increases in carbon dioxide bring increases in
production of vegetation and plankton, thus increasing crops and sea life
in the world.
Since carbon dioxide is the major building block of all vegetation,
farm production over the last 50 years has increased some 30 percent on
average, for a good measure due to increases in CO2.
Although many factors have played a part -- fertilizers, pesticides
and herbicides -- increased carbon dioxide has been a major contributing
factor.
Agricultural scientists predict that a doubling of carbon dioxide in
the atmosphere would cause a "greening" of the planet unknown in modern
times.
Given all the benefits that carbon dioxide represents to humans,
animals, and vegetation itself, there appears little reason to impose
draconian regulations on emissions of carbon dioxide.
History has proved that carbon dioxide is a giver of life.  By no
stretch of the imagination can CO2 be intelligently considered to fall
within the definition of pollutant.
As of Jan. 2, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency began
regulating the emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
About a year earlier, Dec. 8, 2009, the EPA declared that CO2 was a
health hazard and therefore a pollutant under the Clean Air Act of 2009.
By definition, a pollutant is an airborne substance injurious to
human health.  The authority under which EPA is acting dates back to
April 2007 in the case: Massachusetts Supreme Court v. EPA.
The court instructed EPA to determine whether carbon dioxide, along
with other greenhouse gases, pose or potentially pose a danger to human
health.  In December 2009, the agency determined these gases were a
danger and then gave itself the green light to issue rules cutting CO2
emissions on a wide range of enterprises, including coal plants, paper
mills, and foundries.
It has the authority to regulate hospitals, small business, schools,
churches, and perhaps even single family homes.
The EPA is necessarily in a hurry to move ahead before too much
opposition develops.
Before America throws the baby out with the bath water, we should
first determine: "What is CO2?"
First off, carbon dioxide should not be confused with carbon
monoxide, a poisonous gas. Carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and oxides of
nitrogen and particulate matter, form part of the exhaust gases from
internal combustion engines (automobiles).  Today up to 98 percent of
these pollutants are eliminated by such devices as catalytic converters
on modern cars.
Carbon dioxide is one of the substances that make up the atmosphere,
the air that surrounds the earth.
Air is composed of 78 percent nitrogen; 21 percent oxygen; and
nine-tenths of one percent (0.9 percent) argon.  The other one-tenth
percent (0.1 percent) of the atmosphere is made up of traces of carbon
dioxide, neon, helium, krypton, hydrogen and ozone.  Water vapor mixes
with the other elements in amounts from 1 to 4 percent of the total.
Carbon dioxide is present in concentrations of some thirty-nine
thousandths of one percent (0.0039 percent).  This represents
approximately 390 parts per million -- hardly overwhelming.
Carbon dioxide concentrations, prior to the industrial revolution
(1850) were 280 parts per million, indicating an increase of some 40
percent in the past 160 years.
Since 1830, the average global temperature has increased
approximately one-half degree Fahrenheit (0.5 degree F.) with most of
this half-degree occurring before 1940 and the onslaught of vehicular and
air traffic, thus eliminating the argument that CO2 causes global
warming.
Ice core samples taken from glaciers in Greenland reveal some 160,000
years of carbon dioxide concentration in the earth's atmosphere.  Only
slight variations in the volume of carbon dioxide were observed over that
period of time.
Carbon dioxide comes from both natural and human-induced releases.
Estimates are that 157.1 billion metric tons enter the atmosphere
each year.  Of this, some 150 billion tons come from natural sources (90
billion tons from the oceans, 30 billion tons from decay of vegetation,
and 30 billion from plant and animal respiration) and an estimated 7.1
billion tons are human induced.
Some 154 billion tons are absorbed annually in plant and forest
growth and other natural uses, leaving some 3.1 billion tons.
Of the 7.1 billion tons worldwide, America contributes some 1.44
billion tons, of which 0.280 billion tons are attributed to
gasoline-driven vehicles.
James D. Johnson, in his book Driving America (1997) states,
"Eliminating all U.S. gasoline-powered vehicles would reduce total
worldwide carbon dioxide emissions by eighteen hundredths of one percent
(0.18 percent) per year.  Hardly a significant step in rolling back
carbon dioxide."

REAL NEWS - Cultural Socialism Equals Cultural Degeneracy

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS WON'T RISK
OFFENDING ANY BUT WHITE CHRISTIANS
BY DISMANTLING WESTERN HISTORY.
Cultural Socialism Equals Cultural Degeneracy
By Creating Anti-Establishment Attitudes.
By Al Benson Jr., a Cakewalk Blog entry printed June 14, 2011

"Hey hey, ho ho, Western Civ has got to go."  Any of you ever remember
hearing that while you were in school?  Folks, that's one aspect of cultural
Socialism -- get rid of the history of Western civilization and replace it with
black studies, Hindu studies, Muslim studies, Aleut studies, or whatever other
studies you can be innovative enough to come up with that will negate what
white Europeans have contributed to
civilization.

We often refer to this propaganda as political correctness -- which means
we don't want to risk offending any group at all except white Christians,
especially white Southern Christians.  On them its verbal open season at all
times and twice as much on Sundays.  Cultural Marxism is cultural genocide.

Back in 2000, William Lind gave an address for Accuracy in Academia. In
that address he observed: "We call it 'Political Correctness' . . .and we tend
still to think of it as only half-serious.  In fact it's deadly serious.  It is
the great disease of our century, the disease that left tens of millions of
people dead in Europe, in Russia, in China, indeed, around the world.  It is
the disease of ideology.  PC is not funny.  PC is deadly serious."

Lind noted that: "Political Correctness is cultural Marxism.  It is Marxism
translated from economic into cultural terms."  And he told us it didn't only
go back to the 1960s and the advent of the Hippies and the so-called "peace
movement."  They were a large part of it at that time but its origins go all
the way back to World War 1.

That the mis-labeled "peace movement" was a major component of the cultural
Marxist thrust back in the 1960s and 70s has been amply demonstrated.  During
that period I worked at a school on the East Coast
and had many opportunities to listen to and talk with young people on campus.
Almost to a man, they had been programmed with cultural Marxist dogma, both in
the government schools they had attended and on the
college campus.

They deluded themselves that they were "free and independent" thinkers, but
they were not.  They'd had years of subtle indoctrination and didn't realize
it.  Their college professors had Marxist clay, ready
to mold and push in any direction that they felt expedient for the
implementation of the current party line.

I can recall seeing material distributed by people in the "peace movement"
that was printed in Communist North Viet Nam, and our so-called "independent"
college kids were running around busily handing it out -- thinking they were
doing their bit for "world peace".  Actually what they were doing was helping
to promote Communist "peace" -- which is "absence of resistance to Communism."

Lind noted how effective the totalitarian ideology of political correctness
is on college campuses.  He referred to many of our college campuses as "small
ivy-covered North Koreas."  That may sound extreme to some, but if you have
spent any time at all on a college campus (and I've spent time on two) you come
to realize that Mr. Lind is correct in his description.

Further, Lind observed: "Economic Marxism says that all history is
determined by ownership of means of production.  Cultural Marxism, or Political
Correctness, says that all history is determined by power, by
which groups defined in terms of race, sex, etc. have power over which other
groups.  Nothing else matters . . . everything in the past is about that one
thing . . . In the cultural Marxism of Political Correctness, certain groups
are good -- feminist women (non-feminist women are deemed not to exist),
blacks, Hispanics, homosexuals.

These groups are determined to be "victims" and therefore automatically
good regardless of what any of them do.  Similarly, white males are determined
automatically to be evil, thereby becoming the
equivalent  of the bourgeoisie in economic Marxism."

Does any of this sound familiar based on what you see on the evening "news"
or on many talk shows?  Lind told us that, in 1923, a think tank was created in
Germany that took over the project of taking economic
Marxism and translating it into Cultural Marxism -- the Political Correctness
we all know and love today.  So these kids today that think they are on the
cutting edge with their political correctness, haven't even seen the knife
yet.  In twenty years or so some of them may figure it all out, but not that
many.

In the same vein, Walter Williams, a noted economics professor, has
commented about what his friend, Thomas Sowell, wrote in his book "Dismantling
America".

Sowell said of the election of Obama "That such an administration could be
elected in the first place,  headed by a man whose only qualifications to be
president of the United States at a dangerous time
in the history of the world were rhetoric, style and symbolism -- and whose
animus against the values and institutions of America have been demonstrated
repeatedly over a period of decades beforehand --speaks volumes about the
inadequacies of our educational system and the degeneracy of our culture."

Sowell is correct.  The culture is  degenerating.  Williams notes that
Obama, with his style, glitz, and lack of substance, is far from unique.  Such
characteristics are shared by many other Americans in our day.  And Williams
says that, at no other time in our history, would such a person be elected
president.  He observes with discernment that such an event " . . . says a lot
about the degeneration of our culture, values, thinking abilities and
acceptance of what's no less than tyranny."  It's hard to argue with Williams'
logic.

What we are observing is no less than the dismantling of American culture,
and it's not an accident.  The cultural Marxists know where they
are trying to take America, and so far they've done a pretty good job of it
because most Americans, even those in our churches, would "rather switch (to
cultural Marxism) than fight.  It's just too much trouble and
responsibility to have to fight and struggle to preserve your liberties, your
freedom of speech, or whatever other freedoms you will squawk the loudest about
when you no longer have them.

It's way too much trouble to be bothered making sure your kids have a
Christian education.  After all, they get a whole hour on Sunday morning in
Sunday school, don't they?  That's not enough?  Well, no, not quite.
So you send them to schools run, in many cases, by disciples of Marx and if you
do this for 16 years, all through secondary school and college, don't wonder
that your kids come  home to you quoting Marx and Mao instead of Moses.  Don't
sit and wonder what happened because you contributed to what happened.

This culture will continue to degenerate until Christians in sufficient
numbers begin to wake up and start educating their children in such a way that
they can go out and contend for the faith in this politically correct, cultural
Marxist culture.  Until that time, it will
get worse.
