______________
I need every Texan who can, be at the Texas Public Utility Commission Building
on July 13, 2012.
I'm sending this out to my email alert list because networking works.
I appreciate you're spreading the word if you live in another state but know
someone in Texas.
Regular readers (besides our petitioners) know about the 'smart' meter fight
here in Texas. We've been waiting for the TPUC to deny our petition; that
appears to be their intent:

The Legal Division of the Texas PUC has scheduled an open meeting for July 13,
2012, in Austin. This is an open meeting NOT a hearing as we have requested.
According to their calendar, the open meeting begins at 9:30 am - 5:00 pm.
There are a stack of other issues on the calendar before our case will be heard:

I know it is a hardship for many to travel to Austin. It is for me, too. John
and I live on a fixed income and yours truly works for free. I also hate
putting the mileage and wear and tear on my vehicle since it's a six hour drive
each way. However, the PUC acknowledges in their posting at the link above they
have received a substantial number of comments (and blistering complaints 'thou
they don't say that). It is so very important we have as many people as we can
attend that open meeting to show them we are not going away and we will not
stop until we get those dangerous meters banned.
I will prepare my comments to present to them. Since our attorney, Tommy Cryer,
passed away, we have not retained new legal counsel. Yet. We will see what
happens on July 13th and go from there.
Our number one goal is a public hearing to bring forward the scientific
evidence about those dangerous meters and get them banned. I doubt we will be
given much time, but I want it on the record in the event we have to file a
lawsuit in District Court in Austin.
The TPUC is located at 1701 N. Congress Ave., Austin. The General Information
is: 512-936-7000.
It's a bit confusing because when you get to the State Capitol, you have to go
around it and come back to N. Congress Ave, so be sure you have a good downtown
map - north part of town.
I hope someone can contact radio shows like Alex Jones and let talk show hosts
know what's going on so we can pack the place. Texas is a huge state and I
don't know what might be a good talk radio show in your area.
As I have been to Austin many times, hotels in the downtown area close to the
capitol are pricey. There is one reasonably priced and that is the LaQuinta
Inn. That hotel is located two blocks from the State Capitol and about six from
the PUC Building:

Close enough to take a taxi instead of having to worry about parking. A group
can take a taxi and maybe end up only costing a couple of dollars. You would
easily pay that much for a meter and one has to keep running out to feed it.
Expedia has some deals if people use that site:

Below is the Comfort Inn I usually stay at when I got to Austin. It's less
expensive, nice, clean. Because I am on my own schedule when I go to Austin, it
works out.

However, the hearings start at 9:30 so traffic can be a real problem. Normal
drive time from that hotel to the exit downtown is about ten minutes on the
freeway. In traffic, it could be 30 minutes or longer. Their freeways are
parking lots during commute hours and even at 9:30 am because I-35 is a major
highway. Lots of big rigs.
Even though the PUCs calendar is loaded for that day, they could end up like
what happens in court - assembly line and we could be up before noon. You never
know, so please plan your time. Parking around the PUC building is miserable,
but there is meter parking and some lots. If you plan to get there thirty
minutes to an hour before the meeting begins, better chances of getting a
parking space close to the building.
There is an Omni Hotel (Downtown Austin) - I believe one block from their
building. Much too pricey for me, but if people are going to share a room, it
becomes affordable.
Hotels have rooms for up to four adults at a time. Perhaps folks can share a
room to cut down on the cost. The same applies to maybe two couples or just 4
people going in one vehicle. I know it's a financial sacrifice, but we have to
turn out in force even though it is "just" an open meeting.
See you there.
