Edu-Crat Bureaucracy Opposes School Choice
Americans for Prosperity-Texas participated in a press conference held at the
State Capitol prior to a “Save Our School” bureaucrats march and rally. The
public school monopoly event included all their friends – the
International Socialist Organization, American GI Forum, Teach the
Vote.Org — marching alongside high school bands. Their message
included opposition to charter schools and refusal to allow idle public
school facilities to be used by charter schools. The overriding message was to
demand more money for schools (we address that issue in our
statement).

RRISD Thumbs Their Nose at Voters, Votes to Support Educrats, Not Kids
RRISD trustees voted to oppose school choice, but 83% of the Republican
voters (over 25,706) voted to support it. Their message: “To hell with
voters!”
RRISD voted on school choice – we now know what trustees disregard their
constituents.
Why does this matter? Because 25,706 voters said they wanted parents to be
able to select their kids’ schools. The issue was only on the
Republican primary ballot. What about the Democrats? Only 4,644
Williamson County voters turned out for the Democratic primary.

AFP Testifies on Pension Reform Review: HB 13
Americans for Prosperity-Texas has worked to educate the public on government
debt. According to the Texas Bond Review Board, local government debt
in Texas is a shocking $324 billion – it has grown $2 billion in one
year.
Government debt represents a liability we are placing on future taxpayers. We
are leaving our children and grandchildren with a legacy – a legacy of
debt.
But the $324 billion figure does not include public pension liabilities.
And some pension funds’ long-term viability is disconcerting. The
health of these pension plans is vital to the state and to local
communities. These liabilities will impact government’s ability to
provide essential services.
