Here's something that may be interesting to Medicare Advantage members. It appears to be an early salvo to drive the Medicare Advantage out of existence,
I have just had cateracks removed from both eyes. My wife had hers done a couple of years ago by the same doc. No problem. We had the same Advantage provider, Humana. Today I recd a 4-page notice from Humana that struck me as different than ones I had recd in the past. Normally, these notices list the doctors regular fee, how much was excluded (discount), how much was paid by Medicare, how much I had paid and how much more was due from me, the patient, normally $0.00. Bill #1 Total billed $456.00 Excluded charges 396.50 (due from Medicare) Humana: What we will pay 59.50 (willing to write off as discount) Balance due $ 0.00 Bill #2 Total billed $444.00 Excluded charges 383.74 (due from Medicare) Humana: What we will pay 60.26 (willing to write off as discount) Balance due $ 0.00 First, it the highlighted doesn't make sense. Humana is the "provider" and is getting paid, not paying. My hunch is this is what they expect to eat AFTER they receive payment from Medicare. By my math, they are expecting/hoping Medicare will pay $660.24 and they will eat $119.76 It looks to me like Medicare did not make any payment yet, and this "Claim Receipt" is asking for payment This Claim Report came to me FROM Humana so I suspect that by "what we will pay" is how much they will eat. It is titled Claim Receiptand saysthis is not bill. It also states (to me) "You may be responsible for paying some or all of the excluded charges to your provider. MY ADVANTAGE PLAN IS OFFERING TO WRITE OFF APPROX 15% ON EACH BILL, AND I MAY BE LIABLE FOR THE EXCLUDED AMOUNT. That come to nearly $800 if the govt refuses to pay squat!!! If anyone else is experiencing a similar problem with the Advantage plan, let me know and I'll help spread the word. PS Does anyone know the name of Obama's Medicare czar?
