Thank you everybody that has responded. I got so many replies - I love this group!
I think we've worked it out. I talked to my friend, who boards my horse, and we are just going to keep my mare in her 12x24 pipe corral during the day, while her horses are out in the turnout (there are just her horses and mine there at the moment -it's a private residence). Then when hers are in at night, my mare will go out by herself. That way, she won't be as inclined to run around as much, being turned out by herself and in the dark, and she'll be separated from the more dominant gelding at all times. If this doesn't work for some reason, I plan on going with the wide electric tape and posts to make a separate enclosure. But I think our plan above will work fine. I plan on making her small corral as comfy as possible, with mats and shavings, so she has somewhere soft to lay down during the day. Right now, it's just hard dirt. Thanks again everyone. I hope to be back on the trails in six months! Jennifer =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
