KER is a private consulting and research firm, not an extension or directly
associated with Univ of KY (though there's undoubtedly collaboration between
the two on various projects). They develop feed formulations (ie, the
Pennfield line) and a few specific products like Equi-Jewel rice bran,
EnduraMax, Neigh-Lox, etc. And they publish a lot of research on feed
effects on performance, ie lactate levels during exercise of horses fed rice
bran vs. veggie oil, etc. Joe Pagan started it, who is a graduate of
Cornell; Kathleen Crandell and Steve Duren have been associated with it for
some years. They're all very qualified. Ray Geor, incredibly qualified,
used to be there, but recently moved to the Purina research farm. KER
essentially provides nutritionist and research services for feed
manufacturers that don't have their own research facilities (and most
don't). And they provide funding for some university research as well---I
know one of the vets here at CSU on the equine medicine service had some of
her PhD thesis project funded via KER.

Anyway, that's who they are. A pretty unique entity.
