I heard that the Australian federation was VERY annoyed at the FEI in Dubai
over the fact that there was no sanction on an Australian rider whose horse
collapsed on the track at the last big race. Their rules call for sanctions
for the rider if such a thing happens and riders can be banned from
competition for years. That's a very interesting legal issue when you
consider cross-sanctioning from an Aussie point of view. I believe that the
Australians were going to take the matter into their hands as far as the
rider was concerned, but I don't know the FEI stand on it.

It sure is a can of worms. While it is the rider's responsibility for
the care of their horse, I would assume a vet could be held accountable
if there was any negligence of malpractice involved - especially in the
case of treatment or of failure to treat in a timely fashion. Could the
RM or the AERC be caught up it this - probably so. Hopefully we never
see this happen.
