I have a Arab gelding (almost 15 yrs old) who has some light arthritis in back hocks. I have owned him for one month. He is not my endurance horse--he is my kid's horse for trail riding/pleasure--but might do some LD later in season with a junior. The vet said I could keep him on Bute 2x week for maintenance or when needed for his arthritis. Does anyone have any other suggestions for helping a horse with arthritis? I have heard Glucosomine and MSM does not really make a difference. He has never been lame after riding and on some mornings when he is stiff, he quickly warms up and loosens up on ride.

Also, how long does Bute continue to work in their bodies after each dose? (I already know he can't go to a endurance ride on Bute.)
