Cindi, before you create a hole in his coat, try using Aloe Vera GEL (not lotion or liquid, GEL). It's that thick green stuff, comes in a plastic squeeze bottle and works great for electrodes, and of course is great for skin. You are correct in your assumption - bad contact via thick non-conductive hair will impair the HRM.

It was driving me crazy. I finally just turned the thing off. When I got home, I was ready to just buy a new one. But, I put it on me and it worked perfectly! You know what I think is happening... my horse has thicker hair. He's a grey (some greys have thicker hair). I think its not getting a good reading through his hair. I'm going to shave a small area where his electrodes go and see what happens. Because there's nothing wrong with the monitor. Cindi __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
